Days after some online news platform announced the release of list of Secretaries to the Local Governments (SLGs) and Supervisory Councillors for the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), by the Lagos State Government, no one has been able to ascertain whose names are on the list.
With the look of things, the appointment list is being guided jealously by the Governor of Lagos State, Council Chairmen and a few party chieftains at the state and council levels.
According to the news on the social media, the LG/LCDAs appointees are to be sworn in by March 2, 2026, with the aim of helping the council areas to focus on stabilising local administration for better service delivery and drive community engagement, policy implementation, and local development.
This move is also aimed at boosting grassroots governance and ensuring inclusive governance at the grassroots for many that felt shortchanged in the last council elections.

It has been about seven months since the new council chairmen were inaugurated at the State House with instruction from the Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo -Olu, that the council helmsmen should suspend appointment of SLGs and Supervisors for about six months.
The failure to announce cabinets months after the inauguration has caused uproar within the All Progressives Congress (APC) structure, both at the state and local council levels, with expectant party leaders and members querying the delay. Most of those agitating for the release of the list are chairmanship and councillorship aspirants in the last council elections that were not favoured by the party, but are looking at cabinet positions as compensation for their aspirations.
To make the matter worse, the party has not refunded millions of naira paid by these aspirants as requested for and assured during the post elections reconciliation.
In Ikorodu Local Government which also serves as a Federal Constituency and a Division, with one LG and five LCDAs, the list has also been shrouded in secrecy like other councils across the state, but THE IMPACT has been able to garner from sources within the state and party structure, to scoop some exclusive information regarding who are likely to make the list of the SLGs and Supervisors, which has been a matter of high politicking and maneuvering among the APC chieftains.

There were also complaints among leaders in various LG/LCDAs in Ikorodu, that they were not carried along in the compilation of the list. They alleged that a few leaders put the names together and sent same to the party’s state headquarters.
A major reality across the six councils in Ikorodu, is that it’s either that the Council Chairmen would determine who their SLGs would be or they accept candidates nominated by the nominating leaders. This is because the position is constitutionally recognised and council chairmen don’t usually want anyone that can confront or challenge their authorities, thus, the clamour for someone that they can easily deal with.
As usual, major political leaders – chieftains of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), elected and appointed representatives, divisional heads and other power brokers were given slots, even though no one is actually sure of who gets what. The IMPACT also found out that more cabinet members will be announced to address the serious discord within the ruling party following the controversies that trailed the last LG elections. This is to ensure that everyone in the party is on the same page going into the next year’s General Elections as a united and strong party to deliver the state for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates.

Ikorodu Local Government (Ikorodu Central):
Mr Yusuf Gbadebo, a former Personal Assistant to late Alhaji Sheriff Anipole, and also served as the Director -General for Hon. Adedayo Ladega l, Chairman, lkorodu Local Government, during the last LG elections, we gathered, has been penciled down for the position of the SLG.
It was gathered that the executive chairman, Hon. Ladega, asked the party hierarchy for Gbadebo as the next SLG specifically. Gbadebo’s emergence as the next SLG is over 80% certain.
But in politics, it is not over until it’s over, thus, until the list is announced, anything can still happen. Others that may be interested in the SLG position,,according to report gathered, are Hon. Azeez Jimoh Olosugbo, former council leader, and a former aspirant for the chairmanship position in the last dispensation who later emerged as a prominent figure in Ladega’s campaign, Princess Folashade Olabanji – Oba, the immediate past vice chairman, Ikorodu LG and chairmanship aspirant, and Mr Azeez Lamina, the publisher of Waves Magazine and also former aspirant for Ikorodu LG chairmanship.

It is also important to note that some names are also being mentioned in some quarters – Mr Oladele Ogunfodunrin, a seasoned technocrat and former chairmanship aspirant, a strong grassroots politician who has long been denied political opportunity, is also a very strong candidate that can fit into the position. Ogunfodunrin’s aim of emerging as the Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) in Ikorodu Division, was also thwarted recently when another young grassroots politician and political activist, Comrade Japheth Odesanya who has also suffered several denials, was compensated with the appointment. Like Ogunfodunrin, Comrade Odesanya, a former SLG, former chairmanship aspirant, students’ leader and the current Coordinator, Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Ikorodu, is also another individual that is being mentioned.
While Olosugbo will get a Supervisory position if he fails to secure the SLG, it is doubtful if Princess Olabanji -Oba will.
Others being considered for Supervisory positions in the Ikorodu LG are Hon. Gino Oshodi, former two -term honourable councilor and a political aide to the former deputy governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, Alhaji Musbau Alejo, a former Supervisor for Agriculture, Mrs Bimpe Ogbe, a former APC LGA executive member and civil servant, and Mr Ola Sheu, a former councillorship aspirant.
Possibly, Mr Adedeji Osho, and Ms Osinowo, former Supervisor for WAPA and daughter of APC chieftain, Mrs Olufunmi Osinowo Basorun, THE IMPACT also gathered, may be on the list.

The IMPACT was informed by reliable sources that Comrade Samuel Soyiga, a former president, National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) and SSA to the Speaker of House of Representatives, that was formerly considered for the Supervisory Councillorship position, has been dropped.
These amongst others may make the cabinet positions in Ikorodu.
Ikorodu North LCDA:
Before now, it appeared that Hon. Sheriff Tijani, a former Councillor and Supervisor in Ikorodu North LCDA and son of the divisional APC chairman, Otunba Olasunkanmi Tijani, constituted the sole contender for the SLG position in the council, but new realities have thrown up another serious contender(s) whom we gathered has been penciled down for the position in person of Hon. Adeniran “Wake-Up” Adeyemi, a two – term honourable councillor, who served as former Majority Leader and Deputy Leader, Ikorodu North LCDA Legislative Arm. Adeniran Adeyemi was also a former personal assistant to the former chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Dr. Adeola Jokomba, and also served as his Personal Assistant when Jokomba was appointed as the Secretary of the State APC.
Adeniran Adeyemi is also a member of the inner circle of Mayor Ameen Apanisile, Executive Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA.
It was gathered that the return of Otunba Olasunkanmi Tijani as the divisional APC Chairman, was a major factor in the reconsideration of his son for the SLG position. But, whichever way, young Tijani will make the cabinet when the list is announced.

It is also certain that the SLG position is between Sheriff Tijani and Adeniran Adeyemi.
Others pencilled down as council supervisors are Hon. Bola Daramola, a former two -term councillor, Hon. Basirat Adewunmi, also a former councillor, Mr Kenny Babayemisi Fakunmoju, a former councillorship aspirant, Otunba Wale Ogunbela, a former council supervisor, Mrs Edun, Mr Abiodun Banjo, former chief of staff to Hon Adeola Banjo, Mr Monsuru Kehinde Jokomba and Hon. Ambali Olutosin, a former Councilor and former Supervisor.
It was also gathered that Mr Samson Bisiriyu, the initiator of the Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative (IDYI) and Prince Adedoyin Jokotex, a grassroots mobiliser and former aspirant for Lagos State House of Assembly and council chairmanship, are also on the list among others.
Other strong and notable names in Ikorodu North LCDA, that are also being mentioned are Mr Sesan Odueyigbo, a former council supervisor and former chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Bashorun Ishmael Olaniyi (Bio – Dangotey), also a former chairmanship aspirant and Mr Taiwo, who is also a former chairmanship aspirant.

Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA:
It appears Alhaji Qudus Oduntan, former APC Igbogbo/Baiyeku LGA Secretary who is the candidate of Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe, is a foregone conclusion. Alhaji Oduntan’s emergence was resolved at during the epic negotiation and politicking that led to the emergence of Omoba Hammed Aroyewun as the Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, from the Justice Forum and the political base of Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun.
For the Supervisory positions, Mr Hameed Abdullahi (Young Bobomi), an IT expert and grassroots politician, Mr Toheeb Oke (Bako), a former Secretary, Igbogbo Youth Forum, serving teacher and a grassroots mobiliser, Mr Daudu Oshinlaja, a former council supervisor in the last administration and Mrs Dawodu, are some of those whose names are on the list.
Others that are also pushing for the Supervisory cabinet roles are Mr Michael, a former council supervisor, Mr Lateef “TySleek” Odusanya, also a former council supervisor, Mr Shakiru Moritan Seidu, Publisher of the MegaXpression, a former publicity secretary, APC Igbogbo/Baiyeku LGA, Mr Ipaye Taofeek, a former Councilorship aspirant and Mr Hassan Alliu, a former councillorship aspirant, among others.

Ikorodu West LCDA:
Mr Yomi, former Special Adviser to the Chairman on Education and the acting SLG to Ikorodu West LCDA, after the death of Mr Femi Anifowoshe, is likely to be confirmed in full capacity when the final list is released.
It was also gathered that virtually all the council supervisors that served with Hon. Kazeem Sulaimon in his first term as the council chairman, will be returned as supervisors. Thus, on the list are Hon. Rukayat Ibukun Salau (Ajibike) former council supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) and Director, 360 Degree, Mr Gbadamosi Olaomo, former councillor aspirant, Hon. Yusuf Muhydeen, former council supervisor for Chieftaincy Matters, Mrs Morenike Osokoya, who was also a former Supervisor, Hon. (Mrs) Eniowo Dayo Awodogan, former council supervisor for Tourism & Civic Engagement, Ikorodu West LCDA, Mr Wale Salisu and Hon. Okunade Adelani, former council supervisor for Youth and Agriculture.
Ijede LCDA:
The former SLG to Ijede LCDA, Mr Kunle Olanbiwoninu, it was gathered, would be returning for the third term as the SLG when the list is finally released by the party.
Ms. Bukky Makinde and others, it was gathered make the cabinet as Supervisors in the council.

Imota LCDA:
It was gathered that the former Council Leader, Imota LCDA Legislative Arm, Hon. Oredoyin and one other person are being considered for the position of the SLG, while some of those listed for the Supervisory positions are Comrade Odumosu Ashaka, Chairman, CDC Imota LCDA, Felicia Igwe and Baale among others.
